Round 14 Support Thread!

Hello, fellow Hikago fans! As you've probably seen, sign ups (DW and LJ) for round 14 of blind_go have arrived, and you guys know what that means: lots and lots of flailing, starting now! For anyone new to our challenge here, this is the place we come to chat, flail, cry, procrastinate, plot, ask and answer questions, and support each other. ❤

Anonymouse is encouraged for writers, especially if there could be clues to your fic, but obviously isn't required, and comments will be screened during the guessing period just in case. Participants also often use their blind_go ID's once they get them, which adds a fun twist to things and you're certainly welcome to do that as well. ^_~

Writers: Complaints about lack of progress, procrastinating, requests for ideas, and more are all awesome.

Readers: You guys are more than welcome to participate too! Leave your reassurances, fanfic ideas, and helpful random spam here.

Probing general opinions. Canonically, the characters are most often referred to by surnames. Touya, Shindo, Waya. Of course, fic is different. I've seen fic written two ways and can't decide which is best. So if you were reading a fic narrated by Touya Akira, do you prefer the text to refer to him as Touya or as Akira? "Akira thought it might be safer" or "Touya thought it might be safer"?

Personally, I'd say it could go either way. Whatever you choose would probably sound just fine. Akira is an only child from a traditional family, so I would think that it would be reasonable to assume that he thinks of himself as "Touya." On the other hand, if he's being referred to as "Akira" by the other people in the story or something, well, it wouldn't be out of place or anything for him to think of himself as Akira.

I guess the only advice I'd offer is... listen to your muse. What feels more comfortable? What's going to be easier for you to stay consistent using?

Oh, and now that I'm asking questions, could ask this too (though it's not for my blind go fic)... do we know who was the third to pass on that year when Touya and Mashiba passed the pro test? and, actually, do we know if Mashiba was the second or the third to pass?

Hey... I thought that maybe I could take this chance and ask one question for a non-BG fic (because what would be better time to start writing other fics than a week before the deadline? *headdesk* Well, at least it's Hikago fic, too.) Anyway, back when I was in elementary school, some of us were these... "class organizers" whose task was to help the teacher, do little, umh, tasks... I don't even remember anymore what we did, but we were allowed to stay the breaks inside (which was fun, which is why I remember it, I guess.) So, do Japanese schools have stuff like this, and... what would you call such "organizer" in English?

Another random question, actually... when someone's been trying to call you, what does the text say on the phone? Something like "7 unanswered calls"?

Idk much about Japanese schools, but from just watching quite a bit of media, it seems they do have a class representative or something who is usually the do-gooder. But it also seems that many students take turns in doing things such as sweeping and so on? Idk, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can shes some light.

As for missing calls, the message depends on the type of phone. Idk what phones were like during HikaGo canon, but within the past six years, it is most common for phones to have a lock screen. The lock screen should say something like "7 missed calls", "7 unanswered calls", or "7 messages" (messages being a bit of an older term as text messaging of nowadays has made that a confusing term. Whatever you would like it to say along those lines would not be unreasonable. Plus, there should be a little icon of a phone, which is the access to a general list of phone calls. Typically there will be a little number beside the icon indicating phone activity ("8" could mean seven calls and one voice mail). When the call list is viewed, missed calls are typically in red text.

Note that if the phone has been turned off for the calls and later turned back on, there will be no lock screen, and "7 missed calls" may not appear. But , maybe with some delay, the red number will appear next to the phone icon.
