It's time once again to sign up, and rope your friends and neighbors into signing up! This is your official Round 010 Support Thread! Appropriate functions would be flailing, encouraging, questioning, prompting, impromptu ficcing, despairing, hope-bringing, celebrating, and, among other things, of course, panicking. Inappropriate functions would be microwaving, vacuuming, weapons testing, and, naturally, corporate espionage.

Feel free to post anonymously if you want to avoid leaving any clues for guessing. (We'll also screen all the comments on this thread during the two week guessing period, just to be safe.) --ETA: I decided not to screen this time... there's not much guessing fodder in here, anyway, and besides, we WANT lots of guesses, so... ^_~

I'm worried whatever idea I will come up with for Sai would be totally unoriginal. My best-Sai related ideas have been a. written in a previous round b. done before by someone else, and c. made into a doujin.

An idea does not have to be original - it's what you do with it. Most things have been written a hundred times (or a thousand) in fandom, and as long as they can be done with some sort of twist or new angle, people will read and love. :)

All done! I finished writing today.

This is partly to brag (hey, celebrating is on the list of appropriate functions), but also partly to inspire other people to start early. Last round, I did my fic last-minute and wasn't happy with it. Now I can go back and reread with a fresh mind in a few weeks, and edit as much as I want before I submit.

Mm, a quiet support thread is quiet. I guess I'd better ask this as I'm afraid I might miss the deadline.

Any fic prompts you'd like to see about Sai? I'm headdesking as I have no ideas, and so I'm willing to adopt bunnies you've found to be unworkable/just have no time to write/anything about Sai really.

He's difficult to write, dammit.

Remember when Waya found Hikaru being forced to do stretching exercises by Sai? Perhaps Waya found that it was helpful, and keeps doing it.

The end of the manga with the "can you hear my voice?" page seems like a natural fic prompt to me, but I don't think I've seen anyone write about it.

An AU where Hikaru-pro dies and haunts Sai in the Heian period when he was alive. (Possibly he teaches Sai?)

Someone else besides Hikaru can see Sai and hear them talking, but never lets on.

Everyone keeps asking Hikaru about the internet "sai," since he told the Meijin that he was a friend of sai's. Hikaru finally makes the sad announcement that his dear friend who only played on the internet is dead, and the Go world mourns him based on his internet presence and that one holy-shit game with the Meijin (maybe the kifu of it is printed in Go Weekly as part of a memorial article?). Hikaru is dismayed to find that this does not help at ALL to deter people from bothering him about who Sai is.

For Halloween, Touya goes as some famous person from the Heian period and dresses in a Sai-esque outfit, and he can't understand why Hikaru is angsty and mopey all evening.

Hikaru and Touya have their first teenage fumblings while Sai is still around. Sai tries to look the other way and let them have some privacy, but Hikaru is still all freaked out by having a ghost there, so he screws it up and possibly causes years of misunderstanding.

As an adult, Hikaru commissions a painting of Sai at a goban from his descriptions. Touya is all like, "bluh?"

Hikaru gets completely smashed-off-his-ass drunk and spills the whole Sai story to, like, Ogata or Kaneko or Tsubaki or his mom or somebody.

What is maximum file size for one story?
i.e. Beyond what character count should I break it down into chapter files?

you can submit it as one file, no matter how long it is. however, since LJ has word count limits (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=165) it would be helpful if you would mark off somehow where you would like it broken up, should it need to be posted in separate posts. and, it wouldn't hurt to add a note to your submission email that you have done this. ^_~

if you are unsure if your fic will fit in one post or not, i'd suggest posting it to your own journal as "private," then, if it cuts off, you know where it will, and that can help you figure out how to break it up.

Sai is so hard to write *drop* It's like he's bipolar or something, sometimes he's exciteable and amused and "yay!" and then he's all intense and serious and you go, wah, how would he react here?!?

Yeah, that's... part of the reason I don't really write him, you know? Aside from not knowing anything about the Heian Era beyond what Wiki tells me. I love Sai, I just feel... ill equipped to write him. I think a lot of people feel that way, actually, which is too bad because he deserves more attention in fandom.

So I have an idea that totally has the potential to span a chapters long fic, but because of the slow way my mind works, I'll have to pigeonhole it into a two page fic. And I've never written Sai before. Now I won't feel satisfied until I've hashed the entire story out. Oh, blindgo, the things you do to me.
